Hello,

I'd like to ask, do you pay attention to oleic and palmitic values of your recipes?
Several members wrote that if they make a soap for dry/sensitive skin, the palmitic value should be 16 or lower.

Here are two simple recipes:

50 Olive Oil
25 Palm Oil
20 Coconut Oil
5 Castor Oil

45 Olive Oil
20 Coconut Oil
15 Lard
15 Shea Butter
5 Castor Oil

Both recipes have similar oleic (46-47) and conditioning (60) values.
Second recipe has 5% more hard oils, but it has much lower palmitic value (13 vs 20).
Is palmitic value 20 in first recipe too much for dry/sensitive skin?
Or do you pay attention only to cleansing and conditioning values?

Thanks in advance ;)

I try to balance my soap out as well as I can using the SoapCalc numbers. I want a hard bar -40, with good bubbly and creamy lather that is not too cleansing and has at least a 48 for conditioning. Castor oil will help with the bubbly and conditioning factor. Lard is good for a creamy lather.

I'm still not sure what all those acids do or mean. Except for Ricinoleic. that comes only from castor oil and is directly related to the lather.

I look at the other values, though. I try and make a mild soap that is high conditioning, low cleansing, and lots of lather. I figured out that the bubbly needs to be over 20, otherwise, it has none... well, very little anyway. I prefer soaps that have about a 14 cleansing or lower and a 60+ conditioning.
