Hi there, I've only just found this forum so really hope you can help me.
I'm quite new to soap making and have what seems like a really nice recipie but it calls for palm oil, I'm not keen on using palm oil and would like to know if it is possible to use something else with the same effect.
Thanks Jilly

If you are not adverse to using animal fat try lard. Make sure to run the recipe through SoapCalc.

Yeah, lard or tallow work well. I hated to admit it, but I do love the availability and price....and of course the soap it makes!

Yes!...I am a new tallow fan myself!!!! I've made 10 batches more than 6 weeks ago trying different recipes and was surprised to find I LOVE the tallow the best! It is a hard bar with a great lather. I'm a fan forever! I even tried the palm kernel oil recipe so I wouldn't have to use the tallow in my soap but the soap turned out softer than my tallow bar and didn't last as long in the shower.

Im a tallow and lard fanatic. I dont even make soap without one or both anymore. Youll love them! Just so you know lard takes a while to trace, I knew that when I made my first batch but I didnt think itd take that long. My tallow batches take less than 5 mins.

I do soap with tallow/lard too (about 30 %). I like them. How much tallow/lard do you put?
