Hi

I am new to cold process soap and am about to order some oils.

What can i used instead of Palm Oil? i dont want to use it for enviroment reasons

Palm oil is ok as long as you buy the sustainable one, I have used lard called wik from the supermarket before and its fantastic as well

I make palm free soaps with CO, OO, AO,RBO & SB, it makes a nice hard bar, it will help if you add some salt for hardness

coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil?, rice bran oil, shea butter...

coconut oil is not a substitute for palm imo

lard or tallow is a good substitute if you must substitute... or you can try formulating your own recipe and just leave out the palm.

Yeah, CO is definitely NOT a sub for palm. Totally different qualities.

Store bought shortening has tallow with a little palm, or you can just go the straight lard route.

lard and palm will give you remarkably similar results - if lard is an option.
else you need to mess about on soapcalc.net to see what other BLENDS will give you a similar fatty acid profile or similar soap qualities.

fun, isn't it?
