i ordered palm oil they sent palm kernel is it the same? do i used the same in recipes?

Palm oil comes from the palm fruit, while palm kernel oil comes from the seed of the fruit.

According to soapcalc, they impart very different properties to the finished soap. They also have different SAP values so watch your calculations.

Palm oil seems to produce a softer, more conditioning bar. Palm kernel produces a harder, more cleansing bar with lots of lather.

crap, thanks for info.
would this work
9.5 coc
9.5 pal kernel
9.5 olive
1.0 castor
?

You could check grocery stores, sometimes shortening is made with palm oil , the labels vary by manufacturer.

Thanks for the info, i looked on the soap calc, they DO have different properties, im waiting for fo's to come then soaping!

Palm kernel in soap behaves much like coconut oil does. Palm behaves more like lard, qualities-wise.

I use olive, pko, palm or lard, and castor in my favorite recipe.

I agree with Woodi.....PKO behaves very much like CO, just not quite as drying IMHO.

You should be able to use it up. If you want to have a sub for palm that's lovely, go to the grocery store, pick you up some lard, and get some Crisco or better yet, some of the store brand with trans fats. Use those in place of your palm.

Nice, very luxurious (and cheap) soap.

Palm Oil/Palm Kernel the Same?

You can find 100% palm oil at the health food store under the brand name: Spectrum. It is in a white tub with a blue label. It says Organic all vegtable shortening. It is very white....whiter than the palm oil you might get from one of our oil supply sources for soapers. It makes a nice white soap with a light colored olive oil. It is an expensive way to get your palm but in a pinch you can usually find it on the shelf with the baking supplies. My experience has been that if you ask for palm oil in the health food store they will tell you that they don't carry it! They know it as "shortening." I like to use my PK at half and half with coconut oil for a less drying soap. Lard makes an excellent substitute for palm and it is cheap! Also, it is very white itself so helps to contribute to a lighter colored soap. I think it makes a nice soap for dryer or more mature skin, especially when used half and half with the PK and the coconut. I think you will like it a lot. I hope you got the flakes instead of the solid. The solid is...well. very solid. :D

yikes, i did get solid, i had to cut the top of jug to get out! Man this pk oil makes some fluffy soap, it made a volcano in my crock, never had that happen before.
thanks for the tip on spectrum, i did ask about palm and they said no! now i know.
