Has anyone tried a high palm kernel oil salt bar? It has such similar properties to coconut, make me wonder if it would be a good sub?
I'm going to try a 8 oz batch with 50% sea salt and 20% brine solution.

Ill be interested to hear how it works and lathers. I find it interesting that you don't NEED high coconut with salt bars (although it does sort of guarantee success). Why are you doing both brine and straight salt?

I like around 75% salt in my salt bars but I didn't want to waste that much of my pink sea salt so I figured using brine would be a good compromise.
My soap is made but I almost had a disaster. The FO I used seized then separated, I was able to cook it in the microwave enough to get it mixed back together but its pretty ugly. Looks kinda like cottage cheese lol.

I've never made a PKO salt bar, but I have made a 100% PKO bar with a 20% s/f just to compare with it's coconut counterpart and it came out just fine. It bubbled slightly less and didn't feel as luxuriously 'oomphy' to me as its coconut counterpart, but it was still quite nice.

IrishLass :)

quick question : do you think that it would improve any if you do a 80% PKO + 10% OO +10% CasO ?

These bars seem less soluble, it take more water to get the lather going and it needs to be warm. I have already noticed that these ones don't have the harshness of fresh coconut oil salt bars.
I'm betting some castor would really improve the lather, maybe I'll try that in the future.

Hi, Did you ever try the 100% PKO with superfats being 10% castor and 10% olive oils as you had considered? ... or perhaps another combination of oils? If so, how did it turn out re its lathering and 'oomphiness' please? I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first delivery of PKO.
