Paint It Black!

I'm about to punch kittens or something. I can't get my soap to turn black. I'm using a white base, so it all turns gray on me. What do you guys use to color it black?

charcoal.. and please don't punch kitties.. I'll send you some charcoal instead.

As in the charcoal you use in the grill, well not the lighter fluid added kind, right?

Activated charcoal, powdered. You can get it from soap supply places, in some health-food stores, and you can even grind up the stuff they use for fish-tank filters. If you do that though, grind it super-fine and put it through a sieve or you'll have little lumps of charcoal in your soap.

Charcoal, lots of it and vanilla FO which makes soap dark brown.

You can only get black by using a clear base, not white. Get some clear base and use either black oxide or charcoal, but don't bother trying again with a white base since you will only get varying shades of grey.

Thanks. I'm going to get some clear and go that route. Vader heads need to be black and not gray. LOL

I get a real solid black with my all white goat milk soap base. So it doesnt have to be clear. I just use activated charcoal too.

To get a solid black in a white base you risk using too much colorant and which can cause colored bubbles. That's been my experience.
