I'm about to punch kittens or something. I can't get my soap to turn black. I'm using a white base, so it all turns gray on me. What do you guys use to color it black?

Activated charcoal, powdered. You can get it from soap supply places, in some health-food stores, and you can even grind up the stuff they use for fish-tank filters. If you do that though, grind it super-fine and put it through a sieve or you'll have little lumps of charcoal in your soap. :)

You can only get black by using a clear base, not white. Get some clear base and use either black oxide or charcoal, but don't bother trying again with a white base since you will only get varying shades of grey.

To get a solid black in a white base you risk using too much colorant and which can cause colored bubbles. That's been my experience.
