I just tried to buy some lye from brambleberry, but it says
"There are no shipping methods available to the selected destination(s). " I live in Gilmer, Texas what do I do?? Anyone know of a different supplier that can ship to Texas?

The Lye Guy....I got mine from Lowes but it was pretty expensive (twice what I've seen online)...but I didn't have to wait in a pinch :)

I usually get my lye from AAA Chemicals in Texas and they are very inexpensive and quick delivery. The problem I am having is that lately, all my unopened bottles of lye are clumping. I have them stored in a dry/dark place where the dehumidifier runs and theyhave never been exposed to moisture. I don't see it affecting my finished product because I dissolve all my lye thoroughly, but hmm??? I might need to try a different supplier.

another place to try

I buy 100% lye at my local Ace Hardware store. You could try Bailey's Ace Hardware in Gladewater if you needed it right away...and it's not too far to travel.

i go to ace, they also have it at menards, not sure about lowes? no on homedepot.

Thanks everyone I placed an order with the lye guy! I'm not in any hurry at the moment, but I'm sure I will check out the store in Gladewater next time I'm in that area! Thanks, Jan I didn't even think to look there!

I've never heard of it going bad but if it gets wet, well it's pretty much ruined. So keep your lye in a well sealed container and you should be fine. I've had lye with some clumps in it and it still worked perfectly.

right on :)...

Moisture kills lye because it in essence instigates the reaction that happens when you mix your lye with water to forum your lye solution. so make sure its sealed tight! when you buy in larger quantities, say 50# bags, its best to seperate it into smaller quantities in sealed containers, so the ones that you dont need remain sealed and air tight until they are called apon for use in your soapmaking :)
