LOL. I made a batch that turned out well, except for the aesthetics. It ended up with a bunch of air bubbles, so I thought I'd give re-batching a try. It looks like someone vomited!

Oh well, first batch to hit the trash bag. Guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Sure enjoy reading everyone's posts, especially the ones with pictures.

I've only had to rebatch once and another time I tried to rebatch some scraps. Not pretty but for home use it was OK and once you use the soap a few times it doesn't look so bad.

Next time, I'd cut the air-bubble soap into chunks or grate it and then add it in another batch with a contrasting color. Confetti soap is on my to do list.

Rebatching ....

  ...Rebatching can be a challenge...No one likes soap that looks like vomit... :( I am going to do a Crock pot rebatch again this week. I have about 4 pounds of scraps, shavings, trimmings and pieces etc...all left over from trimming my Holiday gifts bars, small used up bars and a few bars of a batch I don’t like. . To get away from the “vomit look”... :) :) ...you guys crack me up…I’m going to run through some of the trimmings and kick out the darker shavings...I’ll probably chuck those…(I know, it’s a little pain, but I can’t throw all these trimmings away)…guilt feelings… .. I may add a little TD as well to lighten it all up..
I seem to have pretty good luck doing a my Crock pot re-batches..I’ll post some before and after pictures for laughs...':) when I get finished. Here's hoping I can stay away from the "V look"...

I don't do a standard rebatch... way too much trouble for what you get back.

Instead I either do confetti soap OR I shred about 50% ugly soap into a new batch of Crockpot HP (Fresh oils, lye etc). I've been very pleased with the results. Looks like regular HP.

I also find that adding shreds to a new hp batch seems to work well for me. I tend to add just like a teaspoon or 2 of water at end of cook to that seems help some.

Don't throw it out...you can make a very nice gentle soap with it. I just made a batch a couple weeks ago from a bad batch I made in December (a honey oatmeal that was off because my scale went out :( ).

Here is what I did: Shred 6 cups of soap (salad shooter works great for this). Then put it in a pot with 1 1/2 cups of soy milk. Let that simmer on low for an hour or so (till it is soft like mashed potatoes). Stir it gently so it's all blended creamy (gentle enough that you don't get suds or bubbles). Add a tsp of castor oil and your EO's (or fragrance) if you want it scented. Stir gently again and scoop into your mold. It will not be pretty enough to sell...but it really makes a gentle soap that is nice this time of year.

Here is a pic of what I made. I didn't try to color it or make creamy tops because it is too thick to do that. I sprinkled oatmeal on it just to make it look a little nicer... don't think it really helped :). But I really like the soap (just not the look of it).

I have a question about adding liquids to a rebatch.
Do you need a preservative, since these liquids will not be saponified?
I have tried rebatching, and ended up with a dry and crumbly soap.
I added a small amount of oil to the shreds (Olive and Castor).
Thanks for any suggestions.

jerry, your instructions on rebatching have been a lifesaver, and i don't dread it any more. the key for me is, what you said, adding your liquid and letting it absorb. i've been adding water or milk at night, and letting it sit at least overnight so the shredded soap can absorb all the liquid, per your suggestion. from there it's a snap!!!! you are so goooodddd, thank you!
