okay so.. my friends I have, literally have an idea for a one off batch of soap.

but.. Ideas for making something Mayo scented? like Mayonnaise scented soap.

i know.. it might be a dumb dumb idea. but its been a ongoing joke in our group of soap making friends here that laying a sample pack with mayo, tomato, basil scented soap and calling it a condiment pack of soap. among other ideas.

but Mayo scent is kind of stumping us. what would you use? we're in Canada if that helps.

Why not just add Mayo to the white portion of your soap? Mayo is basically emulsified vegetable oil and egg yolk, with a dash of vinegar. All three of those ingredients have been used in soap. And I wouldn’t scent the Mayo portion...just leave it natural. You use Tomato Powder and Green Chrome Oxide Pigment with a Basil EO.

If it were me, since this is a one-off soap, you're going to keep the batch size small. I'd use my 10" loaf, about 33oz of oils. I would also us a basic soap recipe of Olive (13.5 oz), Coconut (9.0 oz), Palm (9.0 oz) and Castor Oils (1.5 oz), and 2 tea of Sodium Lactate. 35% Lye Concentration, 5% Super Fat.

For the Mayo Soap, a basic Mayo recipe is 1 cup of light oil, 2 egg yolks, 2 tea vinegar...unless you want to weigh out each individual ingredient, I'd just go with an even exchange of xx mayo for xx oil and I probably wouldn't go more than 8 oz. And maybe add a little TD for an ivory color.

The Tomato Soap would be made with Tomato Powder and a dash of red pigment (dispersed in water) as opposed to a mica for a matte appearance. Infuse the powder in Olive Oil to get the best color out of it and don't forget to strain it.

For the Basil Soap...add a tiny amount of Black Oxide (or AC) to the Green Chrome Oxide Pigment (dispersed in water), and the appropriate amount of Basil EO.

I'd probably try to gel the soap, cut into 1" wide bars and plane and slightly bevel. After curing, I'd package the Mayo between the Basil and Tomato.

When I make mayonnaise, lemon juice is one of the ingredients, not vinegar. But, I digress.

How did the mayo soap turn out, Spacemom? Have you made it yet? Also be cautious with Basil EO in soap. IFRA standards indicate that the safe usage rate in soap is only 1%, which may not be enough to fragrance the soap. You might do better with a fragrance oil due to higher safe usage rates.

Good suggestion! The addition of red pigment added to tomato powder. Without it, the resulting color is brown-ish, emphasis on the "ish".

I just sniffed mayo and BB's Osmanthus FO side-by-side. Close, but mayo is a bit more sweet, tangy, creamy smelling. Might do though. :smallshrug:
