Hi guys, just joined smf to learn more about soap making. I have dabbled a little in it over the months and I'm getting the true feel for it. But I have this idea for a beach themed soap that needs a sand looking effect on the top. Would colored sugar work or would it melt during gel phase. Please help

Sugar would probably melt, you could use salt though - the grains remain as grains. Like on this soap queen salt bar.

I've heard of people actually using sand in soap as well.

Although I personally hate sand soap many do use it. You could use black lava salt and call it black sand soap. If going that route I would make a black and white bar. In my opinion black salt looks really ugly on light color soap. JMO

I know there are some natural exfoliants that are sand colored, I would opt for something like that then just sprinkle it on the top. Or go with colorant to make part of it sand colored and the rest white and blue maybe? Far be it from me to steer your creativity but that is what I would do. Good luck! :)

Thx much guys. It's so helpful. I was considering using oatmeal as a natural exfoliate. Sand is not degradable so i would pass on it. It would be perfect tp use though
