Hi guys, I'm a total newbie at this but so glad to be in such an amazing forum such as this one. You guys are great! My question is:

I am totally overwhelmed by the number of frangrance oils/scents choices available and am having trouble deciding which ones to start with. I do not plan on using EOs yet just to keep things simple for now. Can someone suggest how many and which fragrances are the most popular to sell? I would really appreciate it. I plan on making samples of each soap so that I can convince a few friends/family/etc. to help me finance my business.

Thanks, any info is helpful!

I think you should have some popular EO's around because people will ask for them. You really have to test in your market to see what scents people like.

I always go with what smells good to me and generally people like the scents.

You should break some down into categories: fruity, men's, sweet/bakery, dupes, etc...
Go with what your nose likes.

Do a search as this has been discussed before, not sure in which section.

I think what might be popular in your area wouldn't be the same elsewhere. I suggest you to take a survey of what your friends and family like and go from there.

That being said - there's been discussions about popular fragrances on the forum. Look through the Fragrance Oils/Fragrance Reviews section and the Craft Fairs & Shows section.

Here is a link to one discussion about what scents sell best.

I don't know if you've already seen this but there's also a scent review chart by members.

It contains thousands of reviews of fragrance oils and how they behave in soap - whether they discolor, accelerate, seize, stick, fade or morph.

Some popular scents are lavender, popular fragrance dupes like Green Clover & Aloe or Black Raspberry Vanilla, Pink Sugar, Blue Sugar, Apple Jack & Peel. Some people like foodie scents like sugar cookie, pumpkin pie, gingerbread, hazelnut coffee, vanilla, etc. Others are EO purists. Preferences vary regionally. What is probably most important is that you have confidence in your product and YOU like it.
