Hi everyone! I hope I'm doing this right, my husband and I started making soap together back in March, we started with MP and have moved on to HP, we love love LOVE it and are having a blast! BUT, we are running into a few problems and are in dire need of help. We want to make the best soap we can and have made some pretty cool ones (I like our chamomile spearmint). I have a million questions but here are my two big ones: first, with HP how can you achieve different colors? Ours are all funky earth tones I think brought on by the ingredients we use but we want to do swirls, is this possible? Second, how do we get the scents to really pop? Is this just a matter of adding more EO? They have a nice smell but a little bit of a baked scent to them. Are we over "cooking" them? If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

Welcome!
If you want to achieve different color in one batch, take some of the cooked soap out, color it, then gently mix it back to the rest of the batch in the pot. Then glop it into your mold.

Micas and FD&C colors are nice because you can make bright colors.
As far as scent, it depends which EO's you are using. Some are only safe in small amounts. I use up to 1 oz. of a scent per lb. of soap depending again on the % of safety in each oil.

thanks for the suggestions, if the base color is coming out yellow from the ingredients we use will adding color still work?
thanks again!
