I just tried a sample of a new yellow colorant - it is a yellow tumeric extract powder which is soluble in oil. I used about 3/4 teaspoon added to 6lbs warm oils, THEN I added the lye water. We layered this with a madder infused oil recipe.

Beautiful!!! So is the color. :) The color combo looks great together, not too soft and not to bright. Very appealing to me. How do you get your tops so nice? Is it CP?

That is beautiful soap. Love the color combo!

Now...where did you get the tumeric extract powder????? :) All of my experiments coloring with tumeric thusfar have been brownish flops - naturally colored yellow soap is a current quest of mine.

If you have an ethnic food store in your area, pick up some annato seed. It is very inexpensive. Put some of the seeds, maybe a tablespoon or so, in with some oil of your choice and just let it hang out for a week or so. Use some of that oil in a batch and a fabulous yellow will result. I am not a precise person, except when I must be, so the amount of the colored oil you use is up to you. The seeds can be reused at least once.

Thank you, thank you.....this is one of my faves right now color-wise

The tumeric extract powder I received a sample of from a company that makes natural colorants and botanical ingredients.....I have not ordered YET but I was quoted $40 per kilo.

I like that it is an oil soluble extract and does not need to be infused nor does it add scratchiness to the soap like just adding the turmeric to the soap.

I will get ordering info for anyone who is interested - Just need to check with the rep to see how people can order directly from them and then I will post the contact info.

I am not ordering until the soap is fully cured so I can test to make sure the color does not bleed, but I am relatively sure it should be just fine.

As for the tops, I poured when I hit a medium trace. I poured slow so by the time I got to the end of the pot, the trace was a lot thicker so I was able to make nice soap peaks. I covered the molds with plastic and waited a minute or two, then insulated.
