Hmmm, better, but not quite there yet.
I do like the old brown, but the brown you used all looks a little poopy (sorry, couldn't find a better word
)
The blue one looks much wider on my screen, that's good.
Maybe you could go for a lighter color scheme, with more natural brown to cream, combined with a sky blue?
I'd use one patterned background instead of just plain colors.

Your new header is a little busy... the old one is more simple and readable, could work fine if your font was darker to show up more against the bubbles (maybe just a darker shadow around the words to make it pop). I like the blue, but agree that the new light brown lacks impact... the old brown does have impact... if you don't want to use the dark brown any more I'd try matching the new light brown to your smf logo color, a more creamy color (more yellowy). The new wider layout is very nice.
I seriously suck at color combos lol... okay I am going to play with it using your advice and see what I come up with...

a good piece of 'equipment' when working with colour.. and i mean for anything... is a book such as Color Index by Jim Krause
browsing through it even gives me ideas for colour/scent combos for soaps.
