Hi,
My name is michal and I just started my new soap business here in Israel.
(natural handmade cp soaps from olive oil)
as part of my marketing course I'm taking these days I need to ask another experienced soap makers "what is your ideal customer?"
so, do you have any ideal customer? what makes him so good to you?

thank you so mach for your help and sorry if I made mistakes with my english

Hi Michal,

Welcome to the forum! :D

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but hopefully other people will be able to answer it. However, you might have to be patient and allow some time for people to see your post.

Don't worry about your English. I think it's fine.

Hi Michal, welcome to the forum! :D

I'm Steve and I'll take a shot at trying to answer your question. I have been making soap for 6 years and have been sell natural soap at farmers markets/craft shows and on the internet for 3 years.

Who is my ideal customer?

Demographics:
• I would say that 80% of my customers are women and 20% are men. Generally speaking, women are more aware and concerned about the beauty products they use and put on their skin. Most men I would say typically use what is ever available or is the lowest cost.

Discretionary Income:
• I consider natural soap to be a luxury item since it sells anywhere between $3 - $6 (US) which is more than what a consumer would pay for store bought soap. As a result, my ideal customer has to have some extra money to spend on an item such as natural soap.

Awareness:
• My ideal customer has to know what natural soap is. They must understand the features and benefits of natural soap and what makes it better than store bought soap.

Supply and Demand:
• Finally, my ideal customer must be in the market to make a purchase. Often times a potential customer who meets the three criteria listed above will not make a purchase because they have a draw full of natural soap which they need to use. So, someone with no or little natural soap on-hand will be more likely to make a purchase.

Thank you

Steve , thank you very mach for your detailed description. your ideal customer fits to my ideal customer.
so, accordingly to your description we can say that our ideal customer is
wealthy woman , who aware of the benefits of natural body care products and looking for soap to purchase.

I would add 3 more point to think of:
1. return customer who comes to purchase often
2. customer who has a family , so he purchase more then one soap at a time.
3. customer who has an inviromental awareness who preffer to use green products

I think its very important to all soapmakers to know their market .

I like your 3 additional points, especially the point on the customer who returns to purchase often. Building a loyal customer base is very important in the natural soap business as in most businesses.

Steve

Thank you again
