Needing advice on starting my own little site

I figure it this way, I am faced with hosting with someone, ETSY, or any of the other craft sites. I would really like to jus tset up my own little site on a free service somewhere (if that's possible) and want to know the feedback of others regarding the success of free hosts and words of advice. I sincerely appreciate this.

I am looking for successes and possible problem sites to avoid.

Do you ever try to use free google site for your selling web site?

I just wonder if you want ot use free web site and why don't believe it is working?
My personal view, SEO is more important.
