I wanted this base color to be white so added TD to the base color. But then I also decided to add a Tbsp of honey for bubbles. I mixed the honey with some reserved water and added it to oils. When I added the lye it turned a deep orangey color. I soaped at about 100 F. When I mixed my other two colors they looked way darker than I wanted or expected. It did get quite hot and gelled. The result this am when I cut is a tannish color for the base. The other colors are closer to what I expected. If I had avoided gel would this have been whiter or would it still have been an off white color? Is there no chance of getting a whiter color if using honey? Would white sugar have made a difference or would that carmelize too? These pics look more yellowish, but they are actually a tan color.

Thanks for any input.

I use honey often and can never achieve a pure white soap with it (but I don't use TD). I think my lightest is when I add the honey (with a bit of water) directly to the cooled lye water, very slowly, while trying to keep it cool with an ice bath. It still scorches somewhat but less than it would otherwise.
I haven't done a comparison between the color of honey and other sugars -- that would be interesting to hear about!

These soaps look great, btw, I love the soft color, I think it's even better than with a pure white :)
