Need chemistry help!

Good morning all,

I am planning on making my own melt and pour base. I am following the recipe posted in Kayla Fiorvaniti's book titled "How to make melt and pour soap base from scratch".

The recipe calls for 9.7oz of Myristic Acid

I am searched and searched for Myristic Acid and I did find one place on Amazon that sells it...but its very expensive.

I have however found Isopropyl Myristate to be pretty common and reasonably priced. Can I sub the Isopropyl Myristate for Myristic Acid? Are they similar?

If you're in the U.S., you might look at this- http://www.essentialwholesale.com/product/1230/myristic-acid

And a bit of poking around in Google leads me to think that you can NOT substitute isopropyl myristate for myristic acid. Though trying the experiment probably won't do any harm, aside from potentially wasting materials.

Like motor oil, synthetic oil I mean. I should look that up, I am now curious.
