Because I make such big batches of soap at a time I bought myself a second hand digital scale that can from a store that closed down a few years ago now.
It can handle up to 15kilograms, but if you only wanted a small digital scale there are very good ones for sale in stores like Big W, Target etc. that handle up to 2 kilograms that are priced quite cheaply.
 
I won't recommend the one I use as it's got a few kinks (doesn't do well with a tare on a 100g item and then going up by the gram). I will however say that what I've read about scales is that a lot of people seem to try to get one with a decent sized weighing area so you can more easily fit your bowl or other weighing container on it. As already said, grams and ounces are important, as well as what the smallest it will read (1 gram vs a half gram, etc) depending on if you'll be weighing out very small quantities.
