Some know that New England Confectionery Company has shut down and there will be no more Necco Wafers or candy hearts for Valentine Day. Some don't care and some don't know what Necco Wafers are. They are a chalky sugary delight I have loved for many many years. Luck was with me when I walked into CVS and lo and behold there at the front counter was a almost full case of 24 rolls. I bought them all and the manager said they were still available in their warehouse so I ordered two more cases. Now some would put them on Ebay and sell them for triple their retail price but not me. Oh no, I intend to eat each and every one. I should be set for at least a year or so. Maybe by that time someone will have started up production and we candy lovers will rejoice. Remember the production shut down of Twinkies? Necco wafers MUST be resurrected. :nodding:
BRING BACK NECCO WAFERS!

I've eaten Necco wafers from time to time, but don't have a strong feeling about them specifically. Here's more about the candy and the company -- https://www.atlasobscura.com/foods/necco-wafers

I have more memories about those heart-shaped Sweetheart candies. They were a smokin' hot grade-school commodity when I was a kid. I think they're basically Necco wafers with different flavoring and those silly sayings printed on them. If you were crushin' on a classmate, however, you could spend hours picking out the exact candy to send just the "right" message.

I just bought several packages at my local dollar tree. Should have bought more but then I’ll eat the, and trying to watch my weight. [emoji3]
You're right it's Dollar Tree not Dollar General. Shoot, that means a trip into the city rather than the closest town.

What happened??? I thought the company was saved months ago? I won't miss them at all except for the fact they were the underdog. Never could eat them but did use Necco wafers for tiles on the roofs of gingerbread houses!

It was sold at bankruptcy auction in June to a anonymous buyer who abruptly shut it down in July or early August. No notice, just suddenly shut down. My dates might be a little off, but the owner turned out to be the owner of Twinkies (Bless you!) and the Playboy Mansion (meh). Here's the link to the story: https://www.bizjournals.com/boston/...cco-buyer-emerges-and-it-also-owns-pabst.html

ugh, I hate those things,.., and I live here in MASS !

You can have them all........... just don't shut down Tootsie Roll. The owner ( the mother of my neighborhood friend) used to live down the street from me growing up. Halloween was great ;)

Necco wafers were never a favorite of mine for eating (they were one of my least favorite candies to find in my Halloween sack when I was a kid), but they sure do make for great gingerbread house "building materials".

Not my favorite either, although the candy hearts were fun. One year for youth group, each kid had to draw three hearts and work each one of the heart sayings into a prayer. It was hilarious. Even though it's been 5 years, some of those kids (well, I guess they're young adults now) still tag me in V-Day posts on FB about those conversation hearts. I won't miss eating them, but I will miss making memories with them.

I wouldn't be too sure that they won't be made ever again...From a media source: The Metropoulous family is known for its revitalization of classic brands, including Hostess, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bumble Bee, Chef Boyardee, Vlasic, Ghirardelli and Perrier Jouet, among others, according to a press release and media reports. Additionally, in 2016, Daren Metropoulous reportedly paid $100 million to acquire the lavish Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, and the home's ownership transferred to him upon the death of 91-year-old Hugh Hefner.

I read the same thing but that is the owner that suddenly shut down the company. Maybe they're making some changes and will start up again. I hope so.

Yup! So fun to use, so bad to taste. My little one is sad over the loss of the Valentine Candy, but she'll live.

Btw, the new company (a midwestern confection or ice cream company) hasn't said that it won't be producing the candies....I mean...they bought the company and just maybe they'll use it instead of tearing it all apart?

Count me among those who are saddened by this. I fell in love with Necco Wafers when I was in my early teens. I've always loved old school candies but this one will be missed... save the licorice ones. I pawned those off on my mom
