Does anyone have this book. It's about making handmilled soap, but she uses store bought castille soap.

So I'm thinking I should have no problem using my own castille soap right? Wrong!

The amt. of liquid she uses is wild. For example, one recipe calls for 2 cups of grated soap and 1/2 c. water!!
I mainly bought the book for ideas, but was just wondering if anyone else has it and what you think.

I didn't buy the book, but checked it out from the library. At first I was so excited and thought it would be great. Boy was I wrong. Yuck is all I can say. I think the only idea I used from there is that I rebatched some castille (added very little water) and then added 10 drops of citronella and 5 drops of eucalyptus for bug protection.

Sorry if I offend you!

Not at all. I agree with you. But I did like the packaging ideas, it hit me just as I was starting my Egyptian line and she had some Egyptian packaging idea :)

I forgot about the packaging ideas. Those were cute and I remember the pyramid soap too!

this was the very first soapmaking book i ever bought. Like you, the packaging ideas are about the only thing that I've found to be useful in the book... there are some nifty packaging ideas though

I just got this from the Library today, i was annoyed about shaving a store bought bar too, however the idea of using a Luffa as a mold and leaving the soap in there is interesting. Do you think it would work? I'm afraid two showers and the soap would just fall out? Thoughts???

Lots of people make the loofa soap. It's really cool, they also make it with the puffs.:)

The Loofah soap is definitely on my to do list... I just need to find the right sized loofah to fit in my PVC pipe mold. I hope to find it locally so I don't have to pay shipping costs.

As for the book... is this the Cavitch book?
When I started making soap I borrowed one of hers with the title "The Natural soap Book". I believe it included hand milled soaps but was mostly about making CP using non-animal fats etc.

It definitely got me off to a good start but knowing what I know now I would probably not recommend it to beginners.

I have that one , thankfully I got it for a couple bucks .The packaging ideas are good.

You know fellow soap makers ,we could collaborate and come up with a soap making book that would knock the socks off this one and a few others I have read. Any takers

I would buy that book in a hearbeat! To have a book with tons of inputs rather than one persons would be amazing. It would be like a "blog book" I think it would be great!

I would buy it to . There are so many tips and tricks that nobody tells you , if they are writing a book , you have to think that they know about them . New tips and tricks are being thought up every day . As evidenced from reading here everyday .
