Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't been on much lately, I've been doing lots of reading but not so much posting. You've all been so busy!
Here's what I've been up to:
DH quite regularly goes to the local health food store near his work in his lunch break and buys me a few jars at a time of "unrefined extra virgin coconut oil (butter)". It comes in 300gm jars and it's pretty spendy but it is so nice in my facial soaps. I love it, but definitely can't use it in all my recipes. I save it for my secret stash. Or for when I really want to be nice to someone.
Anyway, he's been going in there and buying it for quite some time now, and the lady in the shop finally asked him what he buys it for. He told her that his wife makes handcrafted soap, and even told her how nice it is, he's got psoriasis and even he can use it, I make all different colours and scents and all different soaps. Can you tell he's a salesman? I'll have to give him a commission.
Anyhow, she was interested in the soap, so I showed her some samples, explained the process, talked about different packaging ideas.
End result: My soap is going on to her shelves!
Exclusively, she is going to do away with any other soap she has in the store, which is only a few packages of oatmeal and honey "natural" type bars. But I explained to her that they are detergent based, and not pure soap.
I think a health food store is a good place to showcase my wares, because the general customer is in there because they care about their health (obviously!!), and are interested in handcrafted products. She jumped at the chance to stock soap that doesn't contain SLS.
So, I am just getting my packaging organised. Have given her some samples to test out for herself, anxiously waiting her feedback. Then it's all systems go!
I posted my $$$$ off to NICNAS yesterday, under much duress I might add, but if I'm going to be in an actual store (as opposed to a market stall) I thought it would be prudent to toe the line.
