My recipe shows it's a soft bar

I don't use canola so I have no opinion on color. When I was using oo, it was a nice white bar.

Now I use HO safflower instead of oo and it's even whiter. Not bright white but a nice of white, even when I use goats 's milk.

Palm is the veggie fat equivalent of lard and tallow -- it's a valuable base oil that adds palmitic and stearic acids to the soap to add hardness and longevity. It's pretty typical to have something around 30% or even more of this type of fat in a recipe.

Great!! Thank you! Have you ever seen this? I saw it in Walmart with the shortening and lard. It's not in English.

That's Spanish. Yes, it is a common brand of lard all over North America and probably elsewhere as well. Sometimes if you turn the container around, the English is on the other side, but not always. In stores in areas heavily populated with Spanish speaking citizens, carrying products with Spanish labeling is very common. I have also noticed as I get closer to the Canadian border, more French labeling as well.

If you want to know the label says in English, look at the WalMart website as they have photos of it in English as well.

Looks good! If I'm wanting a whiter bar, is going with 25% canola going to be problematic? Maybe I should split the difference!

The Tallow / Lard will give you a white and hard bar. My concern about canola is the amount of Lineo's in the fatty acid profile. They are prone to being less stable and therefore raising the chance of DOS.

That has BHA and citric acid.
You might want to research BHA and see if it is a concern for you.
You might need to neutralise the citric acid in it to get a hard bar.
Others have used it so the decision is up to you.
