Hi there. I have made my first two batches of soap and one of them doesn't look quite right. It is made using a very simple recipe of vegetable shortening and water/sodium hydroxide. The soap itself seems ok but I used jasmine green tea in it and now it looks like this;

It looks to me like the tea leaves have gone all soggy and caused the discolouration. The bars on the left are how they looked as I was leaving them to cure, the bars on the right have been flipped over so what you can see are the underside. Does that look like what has happened? If anyone has any thoughts I'd be very grateful to hear them.

The second one however looks much nicer. This one is a goats milk and chamomile soap. :)

Give it time, maybe they will continue to dry out and be fine. If they dry ok, it is going to be a very nice speckled effect:)
Goat milk looks great! Congradulations....now that the bug has bit, what's next?:)

yes, those tea bars speckling is cool 8) . tan bars are very nice too! tea leaves will dry and all will be well

Thanks for the replies. :) I have put the green tea soap away again to allow it to dry out. Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure what my next attempt will be. I have been forced into taking a short break from all this to move house, but I'll certainly post up whatever I make.

Your soap on the right should be fine, I made a chai tea and it looks like that 6 months later ,it is very nice soap.
