Last night I made my first batch of soap. Mixed the lye and water outside and let it cool considerably while I melted the coconut oil (copha). Because I don't currently have a stab blender I had to mix it by hand, which I didn't mind as I sat watching a DVD while it thickened up and before I knew I had a trace! I added some peppermint oil and then as it got thicker I added the rock salt crystals.

It was thicker than I expected after adding the salt so I literally had to spoon it into the containers. I quite like the 'rustic' look on the tops where it didn't tap down very smoothly. I wrapped them in a few towels and left them to set overnight, by about 7:30 this morning they looked set and I popped them out of their little moulds (they had set for about 12 hours).

My little finished soaps!

I'm very happy with my first attempt

Thanks everyone, I just hope that the next month or so goes my quickly. I'm also planning my next batch of soap... olive and coconut oil, not sure if I'll add colour or leave it natural again.
