Yippeee!!! I'm so happy with it. A simple recipe .. of coconut, castor and shea butter. 70% salt and green chrome oxide for colour. I left it unscented since I wanted to keep things simple on my first attempt. The first thing my DH did was smell it and give me a frowny face. Pfft!!

ETA: I cut it after 2 hours in the mold.

I made 7, 100 gram bars and some scraps that came off the ends.

great job! i've yet try making salt bars in a log mold. i'm not confident enough that i can unmold at the right time to prevent crumbliness. yours are pretty neat and i love the color. wait till they cure and let your DH test it in the shower. i bet that frown is gone instantly.. there's just something magical about coconut oil and salt :)

Thanks, that mold is just thin cardboard from a cereal box and then I padded it with hard styrofoam to give it support (basically it's a "junk around the house" mold). Others said cut low salt bars (+/- 50% salt) in around 4 hours and high salt (+/- 70%) in 2 hours. I kept checking it and sure enough it seemed hard enough around the 2 hour mark so I just followed their advice.

Well done, Lovely colour. Thanks for the idea about the mould using "junk around the house"

Alan .. that mold turned out to be awesome. The styrofoam works for a perfect gel every time. If I notice the soap getting hot I just take the lid off and put it outside for a bit, but that only happened with one batch so far.

I made several batches of soap before I got too lazy to keep lining the cardboard. Then I bought a silicone liner and use that instead of the cardboard, but still using the styrofoam.
