Hi Everyone,

I signed up last month and posted up a few pictures & comments here and there. I'd thought it's about time to introduce myself formally and say "hello" to everyone:wave:. A long time CP soapmaker, first time joining a soap forum but I have been this forum many times. I also make MP soaps, balms, salves, bombs, lotions and now liquid soaps. But my first love is CP soaps :). I would love to be part of this community and look forward to getting to know you guys.

Now...Here is my Genny's shampoo bar:

Lately I am totally into making shampoo bars. I was so thrilled when Obsidian shared Genny's shampoo bar recipe on 12/30. With such great reviews, I had to make it right away! Thank you Obsidian:)!

Water as percent of oil weight: 35%
Superfat: 6%,

Avocado Oil: 30%
Castor Oil: 10%
Olive Oil: 40%
Shea Butter: 10%
Soybean Oil: 10%
Lavender, Tea tree & Rosemary

1st Batch : Chlorella Powder and NO sugar (I forgot!).

2nd Batch: Chlorella & Charcoal Powders and with Sugar

Added sugar at trace and it made air bubbles in soap.

Oh Boy! I knew this recipe would make soap very soft but after 1 week later, they still feel like mozzarella cheese blocks. They definitely need a longer curing time than my usual CP soaps!

Has anyone else tried to make Genny's Shampoo bar lately???

I haven't made any yet but still want to say welcome, and those look great! Totally worth waiting for a good solid harden! The chlorella and charcoal bar looks green and blue -- is that right or is it green and black? Do the two powders together make blue, or is there a different kind of charcoal than the AC??

Very nice, I really like the first one. This is quite a soft soap, I usually HP it and have found that sodium lactate or salt helps harden the bars. Last batch I used both SL and salt, those bars were rock hard after just a couple days.

Welcome! Beautiful soap! Do you presently sell or just make soap for yourself? I LOVE Genny's poo-bar!! I've been using it for several months and my hair has never felt or looked better. I did HP it, so mine wasn't as soft right from the mold and now it's nice & hard. I was out of avocado and I don't use soybean, so I subbed almond and sunflower. I did add 3% CO, since I work out in the garden and do live in S FL where we sweat alot! Hope to see you around!

Thank you CaraBou !

Charcoal looks as blue in the picture but it actually looks more like "off black." It turned into off black because of all the soft oils in recipe.

Sounds great! I will try HP with salt & sodium lactate next time.

Thank you Roseb :)!!

I sold some of my soaps to friends a few times. But I make soaps for my family. I also give them as gifts and lots donations. Someday, I would like to sell my soaps (I'm too chicken ) online, but for now, I just like to try different recipes, methods, designs, etc. I just love making soaps - a soap addict for sure :p!

I am so glad you like Genny's shampoo bar. I cannot wait to try it.

I love her recipe, with beer in place of the water. It does need a long cure. I would say 8 weeks minimum. I like pouring into individual silicone molds.

Hi Lizflowers !
I have such fine & thin hair. Currently, I am in searching of the best shampoo recipe. It seems everyone loves her recipe and I cannot wait to try my first Genny's shampoo bar :)! If this recipe gives a go, then, I am thinking about coconut milk in place of the water.

I made this shampoo about a week ago. I added sugar, SL , an egg yolk and subbed the water for strong chamomile tea. I also added some coconut milk powder after trace to help with the lather. When I added the fragrance oil (Green Apple) it riced on me, so I rebatched the next day. I was a bit worried I would end up with scrambled egg soap, LOL but it took the cook in its stride. The bars look nice, almost like CP, but they are still extremely soft. I think the recipe is only a 99 or 100 on the iNS scale? Anyway, that did concern me, but since so many have said they loved the shampoo, I thought I'd give it a whirl, but if it doesn't harden up substantially after a good cure, I probably won't make it again. It's just way too soft for my liking. I have a little test knob of it I am going to try later today, just to see how it feels. I have curly hair that loves to frizz when the weather's damp, but if it can do anything to help alleviate that, I might change my mind. We'll see.

Oooo pretty soaps. That green is just gorgeous. Nice work . Something else to add to my long, long list of soaps I want to try and make.

I have thin, fine, curly hair. Since I have curls I add a bit of bentonite clay, but I know Genny said that this weighed her hair down. Fortunately for me, it weighs my frizz down!

Hi Tienne:)

Thank you for your comment! I've tried so many different shampoo bar recipes and none of them worked for me so far. Without the conditioner, all of them felt waxy and sticky on my hair. And I don't like vinegar rinse. I know it's all because of CP soaps tend to have a pH value between 8 and 10, and hair has around 5. I even tried to lower the pH level by adding citrus acid(Brambleberry's recipe) but it did improve at all.

Since Genny's recipe dose not have coconut or palm oils I am hoping it will make more conditioning than other recipes...We shall see.

Lol, you have same type of hair as mine! I even have curly hair too. I will add a bit of bentonite clay to see how it dos on my hair for the next batch. Thanks!

The chlorella is a gorgeous color, and those are gorgeous shampoo bars! May I ask where you get your chlorella powder? I found it at Texas Naturals, along with some other botanicals I want, but the shipping is as much as the order, so I'm hoping for an alternative supplier.

Thank you Paillo :p!

I bought it at Mountain Rose Herbs:

Hello friends! I have been also trying yesterday this shampoo recipe and I really like it!
I must confess that I modified the recipe because of 3 reasons: i had only a little bit of soybean oil that was a bought canlendula infusion from germany (in Finland soybean oil is not common) and second i poured to much of avocado oil and i could not take it back... and third, they say 1 % beeswax should help against ash... but I still got ash...
Anyway the recipe that I used is :
OO 35%
Avocado oil 35%
shea butter 10%
castor oil 9%
cacao butter 5%
soybean calendula infusion 5%
beeswax 1%
SF 6 %
watter 28%
Lavender essential oil at trace

I made a little batch of 500g CPOP, so after about 5 hours I could cut it and shower with it. I will definitely use it again... very nice soap...
