the smell? learn to love it and be sure you didn't use your cooking/eating utensils.

Made my first batch of soap today. WOW how do you get the smell of patchouli out of the house and off my utensils. This soap is to bathe my doggies. I used crockpot for hp.

How much did you use? Is it EO or FO? I use the very minimum useage amount of EO in soap for my dog.

You won't get the smell out of the house while your soap is curing. That's part of the fun of making soap is having a nice smelling house.

doggie soap

This is the recipe that I got from a forum member
It is a hp recipe, traced well, cooked in about 45 min.
Cut it as soon as it was cool. Know that it will lather well from cleaning crockpot.

2 oz castor oil
7 oz coconut oil
10 oz olive oil
5 oz palm kernel oil
8 oz safflower oil

Lye/Water
10 oz water
4.5 oz lye

.7oz lavender
.1oz tea tree
.2 oz eucalyptus
.5 oz fir needle
.1 oz patchouli

These were EO, I have used several of these by mixing them in with the store bought dog shampoos before. Maybe the smell is the lavender at this point I think my nose is on overload.

Very pretty!

Since I don't use EO or FO's I can't comment on they scent, but the soap certainly looks nice.

It must be the weekend for doggie soap cause I made a batch today as well

I would've used .5 oz total per lb of oils max for a dog soap, but yours is not necessarily excessive at .8 oz per lb. I find Tea Tree, Eucalyptus & Patchouli to all be verrrrry strong scents, so that coupled with the different ph of a dog's skin is why I'd use less.

Since so many of those are strong scents, you'll be smelling it for quite a while. :D

Sounds like a very nice doggy soap. Hope you'll post some pics for us.

PICs?

mandolyn, pics of what? Pics of soap in this thread, pics of my babies in another thread. I have dachshunds. My female is expecting (accident). I think the thread with the pics of my babies is in Chat, the one about new foster.
