What a fun project. 100% tallow. Can’t wait to play around with different recipes. Hello, new rabbit hole. 😜

I just finished with my first batch of 100% liquid tallow soap. In the test, mine is milky though not clear! I did add a teaspoon of honey (as per the recipe I had). Not sure if that is why. Zap test was a nothingburger. So seems good. Haven't diluted it yet, just now letting it cool in jars and will dilute in a couple of days.

When folks discuss clarify of LS, they are talking about the diluted product. The undiluted paste won't usually be clear, although it may be more translucent in some recipes than others. :)

I agree with Ali -- the paste isn't necessarily clear. But a tallow LS probably won't be clear when diluted either, even if you've done a perfect job of making the soap. It's not the honey. It's the palmitic and stearic acids in tallow that tend to make the soap cloudy. No big deal unless your goal is to make a clear liquid soap.

This is also why the "clarity test" that many people recommend doesn't always work as intended, as you learned. This test is okay for use with LS recipes that make clear liquid soap -- rich in liquid oils, castor, and coconut oil -- but not so much if you use fats like lard, shea and the other nut butters, palm, etc.
