I created a batch of oatmeal milk and honey. Before when I made this soap, i have forgotten to add the honey. This time, after pouring it into the mold I tried to textured the top, couple hours after it setup I checked on it only to find that it has a crack, split in the middle. I poured while the batter was at a tick trace, which I've not poured that thick before, also my textured swirl was slightly split on either side at the top.

I'm wanting to know for anyone who has had this problems do you recall if it was because of the way the you textured the top of your soap, or was it due to working with a heave trace.

I have not textured the top of my soap, but I have had a shallow crack running along the top of my soap in a log mold. I think it overheated during the gel stage causing it to bulge at the top. When it cooled and contracted, it left the crack across the top.

The sugars in honey can cause soap to heat up more than normal. When soap overheats in the mold it will sometimes cause the soap to crack on top, like the above poster said.

There's a youtube video somewhere about getting rid of or minimizing the appearance of cracks in soap logs. It involves using 91% rubbing alcohol.
