the defendant: milk FO (it's a local one, it's just called: MILK)

the deceased:

case:
okay, so i was trying a new FO from a supplier who said absolutely nothing at first. was happily SB-ing, adding color, adding FO, then.... BAM! in a matter of 10 secs: ricing, a nasty one. i didnt dare try to smooth it all out with the SB, afraid i was gonna make it too thick since it was already medium trace before i pour the FO (another mistake, perhaps i should keep it at a lighter trace).

did manage to put the batter to the mold. a couple of days later i saw oils seeping out from the top.

the photo above was taken at present day, which is 2 months later. it has this nasty white patches which were soft/spongey when i touched them.

i'm thinking rebatching with the crock pot, but what should i do about the white patches? and what are they? should i just chop and put everything in or take off the nasty patches first so as not to ruin the soap?

i soooo want to just chuck this one in the bin

oh, and btw, i told the seller about this, and she gave me the stupidest 'wow i didnt know anything about it' response, plus she also told me she didnt know what ricing is. she's been soaping since 2006 and has quite a successful wedding souvenir soaps business. i find it all hard to believe. later she told me to just SB lightly, pour FO, whisk with a spatula for 5 secs, and pour to mold quickly... yea, she wanted me to be quick, so i guess she did know about it, grrrrrrr *mad*

/okay, off soap box now

If you use this fo again try adding it in your oils before adding lye or just hp from the beginning. Also when I have one rice this badly and become soap on a stick I let it sit in the bucket until it gels then stir it and pour in the mold. Granted it will look more like hp but it usually works. If it is just a soap on a stick, not including ricing, I pack it in the mold and cpop to melt it down and smooth it out which is the only time I cpop. It is possible the fo was not completely mixed in and caused the spongey spots. I would grate it up and rebatch. If you do not like the color after rebatching you can always add in charcoal to make a charcoal milk bar

If you rebatch, put everything in the pot, even the white stuff. How does it smell after 2 months? I've been thinking about trying a milk FO.

the smell is still strong fortunately. i dont really like the scent actually, it doesnt smell like real milk, a bit too sweet for my liking. it screams artificial unfortunately. thanks for the suggestion, i will rebatch this tomorrow and update.

thanks for the tips. i guess it makes sense that the fo wasnt mixed properly, i only got a chance to mix it for a few seconds, and when i saw ricing happening i stopped and stuck it into the mold right away.

I would add cocoa powder and call it chocolate milk!:-D

this is a great suggestion actually. i dont really fancy the smell of the soap at the moment, perhaps if i add some cocoa powder and a dash of chocolate fo, it will create a better scent.

Chocolate is the answer to most of the problems I have. Pepsi Girl might back me up on this :)

Chocolate is usually the correct answer. With coffee. I hope you can save that batch. The seller sounded oh so helpful. I've never heard of Milk FO and now I'm all curious to smell it.

Or rebatch it with a honey FO and call it milk and honey. Or a cookie/vanilla FO and call it milk and cookies. I guess it all depends on the smell of it now and what will compliment it (or cover it up). FOs were one of my biggest frustrations. Now I will only purchase a FO if its got several good reviews on the scent review board.

Rebatching as we speak..

Have not add anything except water. Will see once it's melted, but i'm pretty sure i will use cocoa powder and just leave it like that. The honey suggestion was a good one, but honestly, i dont wanna waste more FO on this batch.

Once its done, i am going to test one myself, and if its okay then this rebatch is gonna go to a charity. There is this guy who goes to the deep forests in Irian (west of Indonesia), and he's teaching the tribes people about basic sanitary (proper bath included).
