Hi all,

I have recently started using Mica powder and am having a bit of a hard time judging how much to use. As with fragrances and liquid colourants, is there a maximum recommended volume/percentage that should be used?

Also, can it be mixed up and stored in small batches with a liquid such as rubbing alcohol or glycerin? I find liquids so much easier to work with than powders!

Thanks in advance,

Emma

Hi Emma

From what I've learned is there is always a standard/recommended/suggested amount of mica to use ppo....with that being said and after asking lots of questions myself, it seems that people kinda just go by what they like....some use less, others use more....i know that is anything but specific...but that's what i have been able to glean from others.....you can pre mix it in liquid. I would not use alcohol and i think there's something about the glycerine needing a preservative added to it if you go that route....i just use oil....hopefully others that know more or differently will chime in......

With melt and pour soap you can just eyeball the color. For CP or HP- it's calculated more by some.

I wouldn't use oil to mix with your mica for MP soap. You can do a couple of things- Glycerin would work just a stitch and mix it with the mica or you can use a teeny bit of soap base to mix the mica in and then add it to the main batch. You don't have to preserve the soap if you add extra glycerin.

You can use alcohol as well- this works especially good for oxides but usually not necessary for mica. Your soap will not feel drying if you use a squirt or two of alcohol to mix the color.

Remember less is more with mica and the liquid you use to incorporate it into the soap.
