well the batteries in my scale were dying as I made soap last night. the batch zaps quite a bit. can this be saved or do I just grate it up for laundry soap?

Mike

P.S. I will be buying an AC scale soon

Even good soap that isn't lye heavy can zap for a couple of days... Was the scale working at all?

Some of my soaps zap up to a week, particularly the ones that do not gel. Wait a few days then test again if still zapping you can rebatch adding extra oils y possibly some milk and do a zap test again at the end of the cook.

Are you positive ?

Did you try to weight something with known weight, like a bag of peanuts or package of flour ?

Yea , I figured it out on the next batch when I weighed oil in a measurung cup and the weight was way off. the log is way too brittle.

Same here- you should give it more time and then decide.

I do gel all of my soaps and they never zap when I unmold them. How do I know how much oil to add? If I knew how much I was off on the lye I could figure out the oils. My only thought is since I want an eight % superfat I should add about 10% oil. that should bring things into the safe range at least.
