This may be a silly question but the measuring of oils stumps me. Should I be measuring in oz or fl oz? How about things like crisco that are solid at room temp? Can someone please advise? I'd be much obliged!

All of your measurements for making soap should be done by weight. You need to use a scale to weigh them out. Using grams instead of ounces as your base unit will help make your measurements more accurate, as long as your scale can measure grams reasonably accurately.

I'll also add that you should melt any solid oil that could be a blend before measuring. The same for palm. Certain fatty acids solidify faster than others, by melting you can mix everything together before measuring

As the others have said. Weight always. Weight is the same no matter which state the oil is in, solid or liquid. 5 oz of solid Crisco is going to weigh the same as 5 oz of liquid Crisco, the volume is what is going to be different.
