But really what is the difference between lotion and body butter? I know body butter is generally thicker, but is that the only difference?

I can't speak for everyone, but my lotion is oil based while by body butter is butter based at 75% butter.

I've always assumed that lotions are more water than oil and butters are more oil/butter than water.

Most butters I've seen have no water at all.
