A friend found this and sent me the link, asking if it was anything that could be used to make soap molds, and I dunno the answer to that. I'd think that it would be fine, as it's supposed to be fine up to 400F, but I wanted to see what the more knowledgeable people thought. It's definitely a neat idea, could make some really interesting molds using different rubber stamps and the like. Here's the link:

thanks for the link-i've seen similar products on the web-they're supposed to be fine for soap molds-i've just never had the time to pursue it.

i'v seen a similar product in michael's and hobby lobby. you may want to look there, too-saves on shipping.

let us know how it goes.

Thank you! I'm going to check our local craft and hobby stores, and then order some of that stuff online if they don't have it locally. I'm definitely no sculptor, but I'm dying to goof around with some of it and see what I can come up with. Maybe something neat, maybe a big silicone mess, who knows, lol.

a couple places to look for neat stuff for molds is in lowe's and home depot in their decorative trim a molding section-they have medallions and embellishments that could be made into molds.

also, i thought starfish and sand dollars would bee nice. good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

i have been thinking about that for some time!!... id love to make my own molds... i think on you tube there is a tutorial for using some of the silicon stuff called OMOO or OOMO or something like that... its pretty cool!... id love to get into it but i was thinking of how you could do it to where you could pour multiple soaps into the mold instead of only having one at a time.... still working that one out...

any ideas!?!

I've looked at that website too, I'd love to be able to find something to make my own silicone molds that wasn't too complicated. Silicone molds are insanely expensive! (at least all the super cool ones on ebay that I'd like to have are...)
Keep us updated on what product you finally go with, and how it works? I'd love to try my hand at mold making.

How cool is that?!? I've seen similar stuff before and I would love to make my own molds from some of my carvings as well as some of my Mom's carvings so keep us informed on how you do with that....

Thanks for sharing!

I've been toying with that, too....making silicone molds. Is the silicone plastique the same thing?

Here is another method.

The plastic is a thin sheet of plastic and you have to warm it in the oven then put it over your object and suck all the air from around the item to make an exact replica.
