Just to clarify, any lye will lose purity over time every time you open the bottle and moisture from the air gets in. The drain cleaner that says 100% lye, in my mind, is saying it started out with no extra additives from the standpoint of production. Knowing a bit about the chemical reactions of lye, means I take every precaution to keep the seal on the lye container air-tight between uses, and never leave the lid off for longer than necessary and that I avoid introducing moisture into the container.

SCORE just rang the chemical supplies company i ordered 10kg from on Tuesday and because i went through thier site and paid via paypal not amazon like i have done before they havnt sent it because they dont have access to my address so im getting a refund from them and ill order some from the soap kitchen by the sounds of it and earlene your comment has made me feel better about having more bottle. Cant believe a modern company has no way of loggong into an account on thier website

Do not use drain cleaner. I believe it contains pieces of metal that activate the lye when after is added to the drain. You do not want anything in our soap that is not a soap ingredient. I buy mine. Through either Amazon or, more recently, Bulk Apothecary.

Drain cleaner that is sold as lye crystals and the ingredient listing identifies it is 100% lye is fine for making soap.
