I have made several batches and have never come across this, but last night I made a batch that started bubbling as soon as I mixed the lye/water with the oils. It kept bubbling as long as I was mixing it. If I stopped is would calm down. It was almost like Alka-Seltzer when mixing and buttermilk pancake batter when not mixing. It went to trace anyway. When I molded it I pounded the mold on the counter to try and get any bubbles in it to surface and pop.

Why would this happen? I double checked my ingredients right away and I followed my formula.

was it a small batch that maybe the sb caused some bubbles? if its not immersed that will happen.

Nope the SB was completely immersed. And I mean a LOT of bubbles. Not like you would normally get if you pull the SB up a bit.

I guess a better description would be it almost looked like the head you get when you pour a soda or beer too fast.

What were the temps of the lye\water and the oils when you mixed them?

I was wondering if that might be it. I normally mix at 100 but they were both about 103-105.

Maybe someone will know for sure.. I was just thinking that the lye bubbles when it comes in contact with warm water maybe the lye and oils were to warm.

was the container you were mixing in used in a previous batch of soap? and not rinsed out compeltely? that's all I can think of. I had that happen to me once or twice before.

It was clean right out of the dishwasher. Would soap residue do that maybe?

When you had that happed before did the soap turn out ok or did you have to fix it somehow?

Mine turned out fine. Did it stop bubbling when you added the lye water? or did it bubble the whole time?

did it turn out ok? how does it look now? zap test yet?

Haha just did my first zap test ever. I had not heard of that before today. Yall already taught me so much. I tested all the batches I have curing. Everything was fine. But my tongue is not happy about the taste. :p

Anyway I cut up about a half hour ago. It looks good. I guess I was worried for nothing.

I have one rotten stick blender that sucks air.I bought it for lotion cos it has a stainless steel shaft but the darn thing is useless.I use it for liquid or creamsoap only now but it does make them fluff up.This only became apparent 3 or 4 batches in. Fine before that.

Crap I hope that isn't it. It did it again today. But it was not as bad as last time & everything was hand washed before hand.

Nope I have cut both batches up and they look just fine. I did pound the mold on the counter to get them to surface before I covered them up. Ya know kinda they way you would get bubbles out of concrete.

I wonder if it could be because I used wood spoons. I had never done that before.

No,just an Aldi cheapie. It's the seal on the backing plate that's the problem. Sucks air down & soap paste gets in which is a pita to get out.
