Hi, I’m new to soap making and learning from my mistakes with each batch. If appropriate on this website, I’d like to ask if there is anyone in Las Vegas that can show me how to do a cold press batch. I can bring my own mold. There is so much to learn and understand. Thank you!

While waiting for someone in LV to respond, you may want to spend the next 2 weeks just exploring the forum and learning on your own. Here's a couple of threads to start with.

This one is long but a fun read with tips from all over the spectrum.

You're welcome. ;)

BTW, I made my first soap in 2003 at age 60. The internet was young then, "YouTube" didn't exist and there was little info about how to make soap online. So I borrowed all the books the library had on soapmaking and essential oils. I was mostly self-taught until I joined a forum in 2004. At that point, I was knowledgeable enough about the process to fit right in.

I started out making lard soap. Easy peasy and cheap! Here's another thread to learn to make soap at very little expense.

HAPPY SOAPING! :computerbath:

Hi there, I live about 150 mi north of Vegas. I have been soaping since about 2017. I am known as the "accidental soap maker" because when I began soaping it was at the request of the farmer's market. Our usual soap maker had passed during the winter. I kind of volunteered. Silly me, I didn't know he had been doing melt and pour. Of course I decided to do cold process. Fortunately we have goats, so I had plenty of goat milk.

If you would like to contact me, call 435-231-1289. I am a rather young 77 years and don't drive. Will have a new dedicated soap shack in a couple of months.

This is great! Thanks for the info. I was looking to step into CP as well. But there are youtube videos out there for free.

You know what they say about "free" don't you? "You get what you pay for." o_O

So many newbies take recipes off YouTube and wonder why they don't work for them. It's sad. Experienced soapmakers can tell right away if it's a good recipe or not. Rather than putting your $$ into repeating a mistake, it's best to get off on the right foot.

The HCSG (Handcrafted Cosmetics and Soap Guild) classes that @Ephemerella linked above are well worth the money. If you can't afford it, then a good place to learn the basics is right here on SMF.

Go to the Beginners Forum to find sites for tried & true recipes (The Spruce and others) and where you can learn for free.

I agree, @Gaisy59 YT can be great for learning soapmaking - as long as one follows a tried-and-true channel. Lisa of “I Dream in Soap” has a great YT playlist for learning the basics of CP soapmaking. I used to like the Soaping 101 channel, and their basics videos are still pretty good, but some of it is dated.

Yes @Zany_in_CO and @AliOop I didn’t mean for recipes I meant for method. That’s how I learned hot process by watching the method on YouTube. I absolutely do not get any recipes from there, and also after being with smf some of what they say is incorrect. But at least i can see how it’s done 😃

Hi! I'm in Las Vegas, and a member of the guild. Yes, there is a myriad of things to learn, temperature, oil values, even proper equipment and above all, safety. I'm packing for a show this weekend but I will have time next week. I'm the only soaper at The Junk Hunt at the WMC Expo this Friday night 4-9pm and Saturday 10-4 Come see me!

Hello, I am the worst copy-writer! As-I meant to say that I was visiting Las Vegas for a week and wanted to find a soap making course while I was there.
I was in a hurry getting ready for the trip, and so excited about this new found soapmaking world, and I thought it would be fun to learn more about this while we were there (nerd here, taking classes in Las Vegas!) my posting on this forum did not reflect that at all. I'll be more careful from now on, promise :) So I missed @TC Cook. Perhaps on my next visit...
