I've found 100% sodium hydroxide in my local hardware store, but it's in a liquid form. Can I use this in the same ratio as lye flakes? IE: same oz. of lye to same oz. of water? I'm fresh to this project and appreciate the chance for some experienced advice!

Hmm, I'm thinking no. Unless you knew EXACTLY what the water ratio was.
Even then it could have trace amounts of unlimited other things hiding inside.

Thanks for the input, I was afraid that might be the answer. I live in a tiny town in eastern Wyoming and I've not found an economical online source for small amounts (5 # or less) of dry lye. Any suggestions? Again, thanks for the time.

You might ask Paul what his prices are.
