Hi all,
I want to make a soap with storax (Liquiadambar Orientalis sap). Here we have that endemic sap and it has great properties for skin.
I wonder if anyone has any idea about what is the saponification value for Liqudambar Orientalis Sap (Storax) ?
Any input will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I had to google since I hadn't ever heard of this oil. Unless I'm missing something, it appears to be more like an essential oil so it wouldn't have a SAP value.

The stripped sap is put in boiling water to soften, then pressed. The styrax is then diluted with ¼ water, keeping it soft and preserving its aroma. By steam destillation a light yellow oil is obtained, which can be used for medical applications.
eta: Sorry - it does appear to have a SAP value. I found this article http://www.pharmacopeia.cn/v29240/usp29nf24s0_m78290.html

edited again - Now I've found an abstract which calls it an essential oil. So, I'm confused. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S004835750900011X

I'm leaning back to essential oil without a SAP value. http://www.whitelotusaromatics.com/product/styrax-asian-essential-oil

Thanks a lot for your answer and time Hazel.I appreciate that a lot and I learnt that I need to use it as an essential oil in small quantities.Again thanks so much.
