Darling daughter wants me to make lip balm for her. Well, I've looked at videos on youtube and tried the search function here but not too much as far as how to. I did see the Glory Bee Foods video and looked at their web site. Can you push me in the right direction? My first soap experience was a step by step on this site. I like that but would like the experienced folk here to tell me where a good step by step can be found. More stuff to buy! What fun!:D

Thanks - Dennis

This is either FatBack or Mr Grumpy. They both look alike. Both girls.

it's usually suggested to start with 1/3 butters, 1/3 wax, 1/3 oil and tweak from there (like with lotion bars). I think if you check google you can find lots of recipes to try out too.

yep I have made ones according to that chart and I liked them a lot too.

MMS has a great recipe in their blog for a lip balm made with their orange butter:

http://blog.thesage.com/2010/12/28/orange-lip-balm/

A year or so ago they sent 2 sample balms to me made with the above recipe along with my FO order, and oh my goodness- it was so good. I've since made the recipe myself, but had to sub out the hydrogenated soy since I didn't have any on hand (I used a combo of mango butter and aloe butter in its place along with some ButterEZ to keep the mango from graining up). My tweak has a slightly different texture, though- a tad bit more hard and glidy as opposed to more buttery feeling- but lovely to me just the same.

Also- it's fun to play with the orange butter to get different flavor combos, i.e.- chocolate orange, mango orange, vanilla orange, etc...
