I am going to try to make up some lip balm. I ordered some tubes and know what I would like to use and I would like to know if you could offer any advise as to amounts of each ingredient to use. I had some lip balm once upon a time that I really liked and I wrote down the ingredient list hoping someday to replicate it. The ingredients were sweet almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax, avacado oil, cocoa butter and lanolin. I wrote them down as they appeared on the label so that I would know amounts used most. It was called Lanolin lip balm, but lanolin appears last....so, guess that means there wasn't much lanolin in there at all. Any suggestions? I just don't know how to begin to get the right consistency and I thought maybe you could suggest a recipe from these ingredients.

Test Test Test.
Try different formulas, see which ingredients you like, and the amount that best provides the effect you desire.

When it comes to lip balms don't forget to test in heat & freeze cycles.

The wonderful thing about handmade cosmetics, like lip balms, soaps & creams is that they are your own concoction. You're cheating yourself if you just copy someones formula.

I agree Deda. You know I have beer on my brain when it comes to many of the products that I make. I just released a hops flavored lip balm. It took several batches before I gave them to my testers to try. My daughter said a friend of hers said "maybe this is what girls should wear to get guys to kiss them more!"

"maybe this is what girls should wear to get guys to kiss them more!"

That is hysterical.

You could name it guy attractant or something....

bruce, my son is just about of your shampoo. time to order more, i think i should order him a few beer balms! it's what every college student needs!

OK... so I was looking at your post & going "Her son's name isn't Bruce.. " What a dork I am tonight.

That's good Deda, send him off to college smelling like beer. Honest, it's just the lipbalm my mom's friend makes in his basement  ....

Perhaps I should make Tab some marijuana smelling soap? :)

You know that subject just came up last week - lip balm and soap at JMU. Tab and Amanda want to have a stand at the farmers market nearby, they figured that could be their job. Selling soap that I made. When they were waxing poetic about how fab it would be they were ticking off the products they figured would sell best, hemp everything & beer soap. Should I worry now or later?

Back on topic - I love ButterEZ in my balms, I just started testing, but I love the initial feel. And the flavors from BCN? WOW! Honey Bee is divine!
