Hi there guys!

I just wanted to share with you all what a stupid mistake I made and how it almost cost us our health!!!! You probaly have more common sense than me and never do it but here it goes...

I hadn't made soap in a few months and geared up for a wonderful batch of chinese cinnamon and clove. I got all my stuff ready and went to get my NaOH from its hidden place at the very back of a shelf, wrapped up in two plastic bags and packed inside a thick plastic container. I uncovered the top part of the container, opened it, measured my lye, put the lid back on and wrapped it back up in it's bags. As I started back towards its designated location I felt something dripping on my feet and when I looked at the lye container I realized it had been dissolved and NaOH particles were spreading like snow flakes through holes in the container and bags all over my legs and the floor leaving a very dangerous trail behind me!!!! Fortunately I was wearing thick slippers and heavy duty gloves and I had banned my cats, dog and bf from the kitchen!!!!
The container and bags were recommended by the local supplier as safe for the lye, they actually sell it in those bags. I've learned my lesson and will never ever store my lye in anything else but stainless steel or glass.

Here's to safe and colorful soaping!
mari :)

Mari, that can happen to all of us, no matter how many precautions we take. Thanks for sharing.

This is precisely why I don't buy any lye packaged in plastic bags. I was afraid of this happening.

I'm so glad you and your family weren't hurt. :)
