Hey soapers! 👋👋

I think I am officially stumped. I am working on my soap that I am going to be selling soon. I've got my plan and idea on the soap, but I have a few things that are tripping the process. My mind is trying to get a grip on the soap making process.

I've measured out/weighed what I needed.

On Soap Calc, is there an option for melt and pour? I didn't see an option for it.

My loaf pan holds roughly 42oz and I measured it on my scale to grams and got 1318 g. I am using a coconut milk soap base.

I am using a lavender eo and know that I can't use more than 3% (0.3 g per pound). I checked on BrambleBerry website and got 0.84 oz for a moderate scent. So, I would use 23 g of eo.

I going to add light kaolin clay for the scent to last longer. 2 teaspoons would be 5 g.

Adding 2 teaspoons of mica powder that would also be 5 g. Mix my mica powder into rubbing alcohol.

Then to get rid of any bubbles that have formed, spray a little rubbing alcohol.

I’m not sure what your question is, as you don’t need any soap calculator for M&P. You’ve done the right thing by checking the fragrance calculator. That seems like a lot of mica, you may be able to use less and still achieve the results you want. Everything you said seems fine to me, just reading your overview.

MP and CP soaps are different.

MP soaps are ready to go the moment you receive them. You can use them as is or add any additives that you want . Info on Percentages/amounts of additives allowed can be found at the MP manufacturer's website.

CP soaps are made from scratch and need a calculator to figure out percentages of each item that goes into it.
CP can be used to make a MP soap.

Advance disclaimer: please receive this with all the kindness with which it is intended.

Since you don't know the answers to these very basic soapmaking questions that you have asked, you are not ready to sell your soap. Here is a good thread that talks about some important things to consider and put in place, before you start selling soap.

If you ignore all of this, and sell soap that you believe is ok but turns out to be crummy for the customer, you harm every other soapmaker/seller in this space. You may forever discourage multiple members of the public from buying hand-crafted soaps, ever again.

So, please focus for now on learning how to make nice soap. We are here to encourage you and help you with that!

I figured I didn't need a soap calculator for m&p, but most of the people I asked, they told me the run my measurements through it. That just confused me even more.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I'll definitely look over that thread. 😊

Thank you! I'll double check with company's site again, maybe I missed it.

Using a base that I bought.
In that case, since it is MP, I would not add kaolin clay. I would start small with individual molds, not a loaf mold. Great thing about MP is that you can make very small quantities at a time, even just one bar. One drawback to MP is that you can do little customization other than color, scent, and mold design.
Here is an article on the differences between MP and CP.

Also, here is a video on basic MP soaping:
