I make homemade laundry soap with Borax, Washing Sida and a Fels Naptha bar. Is there a bar soap recipe out there that I could use instead of the fels Naptha?
I have made the coconut & crisco soap from that site, supperfatted at 0.5% (because I'm a chicken and theres too much room for error at 0% for me), and can attest that it works very well. That was my first HP too! Just grate it and mix with washing soda & borax like you did with the Fels Naptha.
My second batch of laundry soap is 100% coconut oil at 0.5% SF. I got the idea from this site. Its a harder bar than the first, but not harder to grate. I think it might dissolve and clean a little better, but I haven't done side by side comparisons. I do think that the stain sticks made from 100% coconut oil work well, but honestly I think anything with a high coconut and low superfat will work nicely for laundry soap. Oh and like any soap - it does get better with a cure, even if you HP.
