This gal wanted to have me make her some lard soap out of her rendered lard.
I thought it smelled but not familiar with lard. There was brown residue in the bottom of her pans which I steered clear away from and did not use.
1st time trying Lard.

Lard 49.3% of oils
Hi Oleic Safflower 21.3%
Coconut Oil 14.7%
Castor 5%
Sweet Almond 9.7%
Lemon Grass EO 1% to cover the odor of the Lard
SF 5%
33% Lye Solution Strength
Warmed the oils, added the lemon grass EO, stick blended well to mix and then added the lye water. Poured at thin trace.
Did the Lemon Grass cause the yellow blotches?
I did not like the look of this soap. Looked like a transparent ring around the outside of it. Should I re-batch it?

If there was brown stuff on the bottom, the lard needed to be cleaned. I think you used dirty lard and got dirty soap. I don't think there's a way to save this batch, TBH.

I kinda blame your friend for not cleaning her lard well enough.

Melt down the lard on low or medium-low (don't want to overheat or burn it) with a (roughly) equal amount of water. Add some salt and baking soda. Heat until lard is melted and clear. Pour through a filter. A coffee filter is too fine - I use a paper towel or cheese cloth. Let it cool to room temp, then put in the fridge. You want plenty of time for the impurities to sink and the fat to float. Remove the solid fat cake. Scrape off brown stuff on bottom. Discard water. Repeat until no brown stuff on bottom and the water is clear and has no taste. (Or no taste besides salt and baking soda.)
