Hi,
I bought some lard from Soaper's Choice when they had their free shipping promotion. I've kept it in the bottom of my garage refrigerator. Every time I open the refrigerator there is a strong unpleasant smell that is coming from the lard. Previously, I had bought from them and there was very little smell to the lard. I am still somewhat new to using lard in soap.
Is there a anything I can do to lessen the smell before I try to use it?

Are you sure it's the lard? It could be amplified from sitting in the fridge, only to disappear after a defrost. Perhaps.
Fats go "rancid",which is just an off smell and taste. Nutritionally it'll be the same. Characteristics of your end product won't suffer either. Other than the smell. It also could be a sensitivity change.

just thoughts

Thanks for your thoughts. I assumed it was the lard in that ever since I put the lard bottles in the refrigerator every time I opened the refrigerator a very strange smell was there and was concerned it was bad. But when I took the bottles of lard out this morning and into the kitchen, there was no smell surrounding the bottles and the refrigerator still smells bad. There's not much I keep in there but soaping oils, fragrances, and EOs. Usually when I open the door I get a waft of a nice fragrance. So I will keep investigating.
