Hi Steve! I am not sure concerning price but you can use shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado and (I think) rice bran oil. There are probably a few others.
as a substitute for lard, I sub 2 parts palm and 1 part shea butter...so if lard is 30% of your recipe, divide by 3 = 10. so you'd use 20% palm and 10% shea butter
