Just made my first batch!

I did a 7% superfat with 30% coconut oil and 70% olive oil. I'm adding a oatmeal, milk & honey scent with oatmeal on top. I'm actually waiting for the lye water and oils to cool right now so I am not totally done. I didn't realize it would take so long to cool! I am waiting for a temp of 100-110* I think.
Excited to let you all know how it turns out, I have stalked a lot and have learned much

Exciting.. welcome to your new addiction.

Be sure to post pics!! OM&H is a wonderful scent.. I personally add a bit higher at .8 for that one since it doesn't seem to always stick in products as well as others do. Tend to be naturally lighter I think. But it can vary also with makers.
For future.. you can always set your lye and oils separately in a ice bath in the sink. I don't think I ever let mine cool on their own anymore unless it's overnight. haha! Super impatient I am.

Great to know for next time. I wasn't sure if I could use a water bath or not but I am very glad to know. I have been very impatient so far. I used 1oz per lb for the FO, I like my soap smelly and I read since its naturally lighter I could go on the higher end. I haven't added it yet though~ do you think 1oz /lb is too much?

No.. its fine. I use 1 oz on some others, especially ones with Bastile that need to cure longer.

Jeneelk, do you use 1 oz per pound of oil,or,per pound of soap. I have been using 1 oz per pound of oil, but many of my scents don't stick. I have read about some others using per pound of finished soap...is that too much?

Not sure why they are orange-- turned that way after I added the FO and before that it was a really pretty light yellow. Either way I am happy that I finished my very first batch!!

I ended up being impatient and started at 117 degrees. It reached trace in about a minute (I was surprised and thought it could take 15 min+?)

Then I wrapped in Saran Wrap and a towel.

It was about 11pm when I finished. Does that mean I have to wait until 11p tomorrow night to cut it? I still feel like I have no idea what I am doing and so many questions, sry :/

Oh that looks so good!! Very nice first batch.

Not sure if you know but FO with vanilla turns soaps variations of brown. This one has a good amount in it so that's why the oil has a color and it will darken your soap over time. But it's very pretty so don't worry. Goes well with the fragrance I think. And if you want a creamy color.. Well guess you'll just have to make another! Haha.

Your recipe is higher OO bastile so it could take longer to unmold. Are you going to promote it to gel? That will speed up un molding.

I want to make more tomorrow night already with my warm vanilla sugar FO... Or maybe with cocoa powder. Hmmmm. So many choices.
And... You might have to explain the gel question, I don't really fully understand that part yet. Off to do more research

Your first soap looks great! and you sound like the rest of us already planning out our next batches My OMH turns my batter orange then a nice light honey brown when done. I got mine from WSP. If your home is warm, wrapping the towel around your soap will help to force gell. If your soap is sitting near air conditioning you may want to move it or wrap another towel around it to keep the heat in. If you don't want gell then put your poured soap into the freezer or fridge. There's lots of good info here regarding gelling versus non-gelling to help you decide. Congrats on your first batch and can't wait to see cut pics.

Another pic ... I got impatient and cut it this morning (about 12 hours) and it cut just fine. I may have cut them a tad too small? I'm not sure but I'm happy, all looks good so far!
